Hello everyone,

The Olympic Games are now just a few days away and we would like to talk about sports.

What sports are the most popular and/or unusual in Poland?

Are sports facilities easily accessible there? Where and how can one find sports clubs in the region?

Are there sports events regularly held in the country?

And you? What is your favourite sport? Which one(s) do you practice in Poland?

Thank you in advance,

Priscilla

Hi.
I am not a huge sport fun, but after the last events, in my view it is football, definitely volleyball and cycling.
The last view years running appear to be a new phenomenon.
The sport I like is golf. Unfortunately there are not many golf courses around and those that exists are very expensive. Also there are not many transitions about golf in television. Let's hope this will improve with the years.

Sports that people like watching or practising?

For Dutch people, cycling is not considered a sport. Unless you're racing on a race bike, or doing serious mountain biking.

It does get slowly more popular here (not counting the Sunday afternoon bike tourists), and inrastructure is slowly improving, but it's still virtually impossible to watch live transmission of the big tour stages (Tour, Giro, Vuelta) here and asking for them in sports bars mostly draws blank looks :)

Sports like ice speedway, car ralley are the ones that jump to my mind as unusually+unexpectedly popular here, and do get often broadcoasted on the telly.

Sports clubs on amateur level here don't really exist in the organized form as in e.g. Western Europe. Instead, it's more the American model, where one can practise organised sports during high school/studies, and afterwards there are only options to play organised sports at (semi-) professional level.

If you're not on that level, only other options are to play with friends, and organising some (Sunday) league yourself, and making all the necessary organsation+reservations for this.

My favorite sport is basketball, but it is not popular in Poland. I would like to congratulate Mr Majka for dobyty medal at the Olympics. My księgowa Kalisz said that certainly will win this medal.
