I retire to Mexico on January 12. And hoping to find some friendly expats who will show me the ropes when I arrive in Merida.  Still haven't found the right apartment...am hoping to be near the Zocalo and near shops and other expat hang outs until I learn a lttle Spanish. Wish me luck guys!

I would personally look for a nice area on the outskirts  facing the prevailing winds so the pollution does not bother you El Centro has a lot of pollution due to narrow streets and tall building.  Philip  the part Canuck in Playa

Hi Phil

Wish I had seen this sooner...just got back from Playa and loved it....now looking for an affordable apartment there. I am assuming you have returned to Picton? Anyway, am back in Merida for the time being but found Playa to be more to my liking...even with the Disneyworld patina. Any advice you might have would be appreciated.
