Hiya,

First post, my parents are Mauritian but I was born and raised in the UK.  For a long time now I have been contemplating on maybe looking to get a job in mauritius, but not sure where to start looking, when a good time would be, and what the country is short of in terms of IT skills.

Im working as a Desktop Support Analyst in the legal industry but wondering, is that sort of job sort after in mauritius or is it not specialised enough?
Im a quick learner and pick things up very easily, but if I go, I want to be on good enough money to live a comfortable life there.  I would be living on my own.

I hope you can help because the country is screaming out for me!
Where do I even start looking for a job!

Pleaseeee help :)

Thanks
CJ

There are many IT professionals here is Mauritius, I don't know if you are specialized enough or not. Have you got a few contacts here? (You should try to find a job from abroad)

I can imagine there are a few specialists there.  I suppose I would need to specialise in one area.  I have seen that programming is something which is in demand, also my preference is Support Desk Team Leader or Project Management.
With regards to contacts, im not entirely sure, I know a few people there, but not really in the IT industry..

You should post your CV on myjob

Chris_Junior41

funny you should say that.  I loaded it on yesterday.  Doubt i would get much responses, but worth a go hey!

Well if you happen to know anyone that needs my help, feel free to give me a shout!

If you look at the National ICT plan for Mauritius that the government published recently (see www.gov.mu - there's a link on the homepage), they are targeting 29 000 people working in the sector by 2011. As there are only going to be about 16 000 Mauritians qualifed to work in the sector by then, there is going to be a deficit of some 13 000 that will have to come from abroad.

I understand from many people I have spoken with here that finding and retaining good staff is becoming increasingly difficult. I am sure if you sent your CV to major Mauritian-based companies on a speculative basis you would get some interest.

Here in Cybercity there is a lot of building work, so in general I would say it is a positive market for employment (assuming global finance crisis does not intrude). However, recent coverage in Financial Times suggests Africa may be more resiliant as there is basic infrastructure to build and market penetration to drive, so unlikely to impacted like the rest of the world.

Hello Chris, just curious about your comment here. Why is it difficult retaining staff?

Hi cj,

I just came across your post and I myself are in the same situation. I'm planning on moving to Mauritius and want to work in the IT field but want to know how to apply.

Can you help me?

Thanks
