Hello,

My husband and I just booked a trip to Belize June 4th - 11th.  This is a fact finding trip for us as we are looking to retire in Corozal.  Can anyone give us some recommendations on a place to stay in Corozal?  We are not looking for anything fancy and definitely not a resort.  We want to stay in the area where locals live.  We want to get a feel for how living would be in the area.  We are also interesting in seeing other parts of Belize to see if there are other areas that we would consider moving.  We came up with Corozal based on research only. Can anyone give us suggestions on other areas to consider?  I don't think we would want to live on the island due to expense and convenience.

Thanks,

Hey; If you like the Jungle/ Rainforest look at the San Ignacio area. There are Ruins, Caves, and lots of small villages to Explore. If you like the coast, Placentia is an up and comming area (little more pricy for rentals, but still much cheeper than the islands). Both are very nice. I can't say much about Corozal, never stoped to look around. Try to contact Katz30, She if very familiar with the San Ignacio area and the small villages around there.
:)
CONGRATS on taking the next step and moving forward on your dreams. Maybee see you there someday.

Hi Cindy, if you definately want to stay in Corrozal and are looking for a very reasonably priced place to stay then try The Sea Breeze Hotel.  Its owned by a Brit Expat, Gwyn lawrene and is situated on the sea front amongst local properties.

Hope this helps, best regards

Thank you Zak, that sounds like what we are looking for.  I would definitely like to be near the locals. I will check them out on the internet.

Hello their, after 40 years here in Belize I still do not like Corazol so can`t help you there. Check out the San Ignacio Cayo area, I think you will find you like it their is a lot to do and see and it has more of a town center. Come and check out the market on a Saturday morning. Corazal always just seems to be a suburb of Chetumal.

We will definitely check out the San Ignacio Cayo area.  But I do have one question.  Do you  know what the hospitals are like in Guatemala?  I was thinking of being close to Mexico for convenience to doctors and hospitals.

Thanks,
Cindy
