Hi Everyone,
I have been living and working in Kuwait for a year now and have heard about the happy hour events at the embassy.  Is it possible to get an invite for just a simple expat living abroad trying to find a social life?  I mean it is our embassy correct?

I lived in Kuwait for over two years. Never had an invite. Your face has to fit and you have to be one of the Elite.

First, which embassy are you talking about? You say "Its our Embassy" but don't list which one your talking about.. You could be British, American, Australian, Indian, German... ETC....

Second, the Happy Hours are for all the employees of the Embassy, and occasionally their invited guest (some times guest are not allowed).  Are you friends with anyone that works at the Embassy your talking bout?

im guessing Karen is referring to the US embassy, and that is news for me; i thought the open bar was for all US residents in Kuwait.

Yeah, the Bar area is in the house section side of the embassy, and security knows, escpially on days that there is a happy hour, to look at all Badges. All Guest will have a big red Visitor badge and have to be escorted by a Staff Member the entire time. And they don't start until after the Visa/business side closes so no one can kinda stick around till it starts and sneak in. The Bar Tender is also trained to look at all badges as well...  Your best way to get invited is to befriend an employee, and even then it hard to get invited since that staffer has to "vouch" for you and if you do something stupid they get into trouble (you really don't see to many guest honestly at them for this reason).  Every so often we do see a Kuwaiti that someone invited and its kinda like Picking the Salt out of the pepper jar, but they always have a good time and love being invited, i think its almost a bragging right for some of them.
