I guess that sounds like a fair deal..

Perhaps set up an area where locals can introduce themselves in order to be invited?

i think thats a great idea. I am not so sure abt the common area where locals can ask to get invited though!

Understand where this is coming from but not sure I would want it.

Am not sure what I think of it, this one simply evokes the first decision!  Not sure of the reasoning unless Julien has had a barrage of e-mails on this?  My view was to delete anyone who was not an Expat as this is an Expat site.  Then after receiving some constructive and positive views from some of the more responsive locals I had a 'softening' of views and offered in the 'one, twice then strike' rule.  I am more inclined to stand by convictions on this matter and work at getting the standards and inputs of this site back up to an interesting level again. Sometimes by 'opening things up' one can simply 'dilute the quality' by trying to attract too many!

I would like to see the site stay the way it is - for the Expats! 

While there are a definitely few locals who have a lot to offer, there is still that mentality that all is wonderful in OZ when an off color comment  made or someone is sharing a unique event they may have had.

I believe this forum was designed so the Expats can  share and discuss their experiences, challenges and knowledge with other Expats and I'd like to see it stay that way.
