My family will be living in Bratislava in July 2011. We will be working at QSI International School.  My 19 year old son will be with us and will be seeking employment. Is there job opportunities for US expats who have graduated from high school but no college?

Christine

Your topic has been introduced as a new thread on the Bratislava forum for better visibility.

I also just relocated to Bratislava, any job leads would be great. I don't mind teaching at this point. But I have 14 experience in Management and sales. Thanks.

Hi and welcome on board Dhasse!

You might try posting an advert in the jobs section of Bratislava classifieds!

Job opportunities are slim unless you  speak good Slovak; I have an American friend seeking work now who is finding it hard, and a Slovak friend with very good English equally looking for a job!

As far as teaching is concerned, Slovak authorities demand that all staff have a recognised pedagogical qualification (language schools will be different, no doubt) - but as far as the international schools are concerned, unless they can demonstrate that they need a specialist unavailable locally, they can only appoint staff with the correct teaching qualifications.

Yes, there is opportunities, but you would need some level of Slovak language, at least to deal with clerks. There is currently new law submitted, that also non-certified teachers can teach English, this might be a shot for your son. Anyway, try this site: http://www.profesia.sk/ largest one for Slovakia for employment opportunities.

Guys, you may always try out applying in big companies, as IBM, Dell and so on .... they are very open to expats. However, depends if there is any suitable vacancy - that I can't ensure. I work for Dell, if you would like me to recommend you, send me a private message and we can drop a word or two.
