Hi everyone,

As a foreign entrepreneur, launching a business in Bulgaria is a fantastic project and an exciting challenge. Some ideas are likely to succeed. Some others are promising but may not work as well as intended.

In your opinion, what kind of business or industry is likely to succeed in Bulgaria? What kind of industry or service currently unavailable or underdeveloped in the country would meet local needs?

On the other hand, what are the most common business types foreign entrepreneurs would be eager to launch in the country but with very little chance of success?

Hello Priscilla,

Interesting topic. I am watching the recent oil & gas discovery by Total, the French oil company, 128 kilometers offshore from Varna. It would be a great economic benefit for Bulgaria if significant oil & gas reserves are found, both in terms of job creation and becoming more energy independent. Wealth is created by turning basic materials into useful products, not by a printing press! Oil industry jobs account for 5% of the US workforce and the salaries are significantly above average. The energy savings for Bulgarians could be spent in the local economy instead of sending it to foreign oil-gas companies. This could be a game changer for Bulgaria!
