Are there any shops in the city which sell really interesting and modern classroom style posters for maths and science?

Make them.

Coreldraw is an excellent design program and you can get the results made up into small banners easily and cheaply.
You commonly find the banners are sold but the square meter, so design items within that in order to get the most for your cash.
Also, make them so the banners take a plastic pipe top and bottom, meaning you thread a string through so you only need one screw or hook in the wall.
Cheaper, more durable and bigger than posters, and you get what you want on them rather than what other people think you want.
