Hi,

I'm considering a move to Central America but am concerned about the safety issue for single women traveling or living alone.

Does anyone have any experience with this or recommendations?

Thamks!

Christine

In general Panama is very safe and is a joy to travel. There are certain areas of Panama City you should not go as in any city. In particular, the old city is beautiful and often visited during the day. Yet, in the evening you should avoid. It is easy to get lost in this area and the "good" and "bad" blocks are right next to one another. Other minor tips include not wearing flashy jewelry and never putting your purse on the floor (use a purse hook) as this is seen as bad luck and targets you for theft. Good luck an enjoy your travels.
