Hello everyone,

Finding affordable housing in Fiji is number one priority for newcomers. Tell us more about the estate market in your district/city/region.

What are the most desired places to live? What are the most affordable ones? What is the average cost of a rented flat? And what is the average sale price for an appartment or a house? Could you tell us more about local real estate policies/procedures? What about property tax or residency tax in Fiji?

What about you? Where do you live now? Is it a place you would recommend?

Thank you in advance for your clarifications.

We live on the island of Taveuni which is in the northern division of
Fiji Islands.  It is the third largest island.  It is still somewhat remote;
with the ferry or plane to bring in goods or for travel to the main island.
We chose Taveuni because it is more rural; very quiet and has both
an airport and ferry which makes travel easier.  It is also very beautiful
and easy to grow fruits and vegetables.  There are many places
on this island with freehold land; with or without a house on it.
In Soqulu in the south there are several lots still available at very
reasonable prices.  This is due in part to the law which states
a land buyer must build within 2 years of purchase (some extensions
are available) and  the house must cost 250k  Fiji Dollars or more to
built.  At the current exchange rate that is about $130K  USD.
I don't know about rental rates either here on Taveuni or any of
the other islands.
