Hi All ,

Hope this message finds you good. I would be moving to Copenhagen for a work assignment.
I seek some useful information on average monthly expenditure of an individual expat in Denmark.
Consider the following :-
Decent 1 BHK accommodation in the suburbs which is easily accessible from Ballerup.
Food prepared mostly at home with occasional eating outside.
Travel via Bus or Metro.
Utilities and occasional travel to explore places.

It would be very useful if anyone can share these information.
Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Zafar.

Hi Zafar

I guess that you will need 2,000 - 2,500 DKK for the household.
A room (not an apartment) will probably cost from 3,500 - 5,000 DKK including heating and electricity.
Transportation depends on how many zones you'll pass. https://dinoffentligetransport.dk/media … akat_h.pdf

Hi Nellie,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Can you also suggest few areas to look for accommodation ( Range of 3000-4000 DKK ) near or easily accessible to Ballerup ?
Also , do expats working in Denmark have a separate slab of income tax ? Please explain a bit.

Thanks you so much for your reply once again and looking forward to hear from you soon.

Regards,
Zafar.

I have made a search on boligportal.dk (Ballerup, Måløv, Lyngby, Glostrup, Herlev, København N, København NV) and I got 24 hits. Smørumovre, Smørumnedre, Bagsværd and Gladsaxe are also relevant places to look for a room. It could also be other stations along the railway. Don't focus unilaterally on the distance, it all depends on how good the connections are.

As you will find out, you will not be able to find an apartment for 4,000 DKK. This amount will only rent you a room somewhere.

Not the easiest thing to make a search when you don't speak Danish, but you must feel your way. Room = værelse, apartment = lejlighed, property = ejendom
If it doesn't work for you, just ask.

Normally, foreigners are employed by a Danish company for a non-limited period, and if so they will be taxated precisely the same way as we others. I understand your wording work assignment as if you will only be in Denmark for a short period, right? It may mean that the taxation will be different (but not heavier). I have found below links, but as everything else in Denmark, the text is in Danish, and as it is complicated stuff in itself, I don't know if it gives sense for you.
You can read about the tax system here:
http://skat.dk/SKAT.aspx?oId=68777& … mp;lang=UShttp://skat.dk/SKAT.aspx?oId=80716&lang=US

I cannot find a mail address to SKAT (the tax authority), but maybe, http://icitizen.dk/ will be able to answer your potential questions.

You may also find these pages helpful, but unfortunately the text is in Danish. You can choose English, but the issues then mentioned are not the same. Probably, because the site belongs to Danish Industry (an  professional organisation) why the target group isn't the expats.
