Arabic dialect!

Post new topic

Hi everyone!

I'm from India and I was hoping someone here who speaks Arabic could help me out...I learnt Arabic in school,in Abu Dhabi and it seems to be similar to what my daughter is learning at her school here in Jeddah as well. What kind of Arabic is it that is taught in most schools?I'd like to pick up conversational Arabic, and though I can speak a little,it sounds very formal n like I stepped out of a time machine. What form/dialect of conversational Arabic should I be looking to learn so I could be understood by most people and also which is most similar to what I already know?Appreciate any help...Thanks! :)

Conversational Arabic is different to Arabic taught in school. IMO what is taught in school is extremely formal.

Dialects are slightly different in regions of the kingdom and during at time I get confused when I'm speaking to someone from Eastern Province.

conversational arabic is often called modern standard arabic. meaning - it still holds some "fusha" but due to modernization aka vernacular speech it has been slightly modified.
