Hello everyone,

Would you recommend studying abroad in Tanzania?

Every year, 4 million young people from all over the world choose to study abroad for one semester or a full academic year. Would you encourage them to come and study in Tanzania?

In your opinion, what are the most prestigious colleges and universities in the country/area? Are these free of charge? If not, are tuition fees expensive? Are there many foreign students enrolled in these schools/colleges/universities? What is the main language of instruction at the university?

Thank you in advance for sharing!
Priscilla

Hi Priscilla!
There are many univeristies in Tanzania and the most reputed is the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). It has many colleges and campuses in different parts of the country. It provides many courses in the areas of engineering, medicine, ICT, Business Administration, arts, law, education, etc.
Other famous Univeristies include but not limited to Mzumbe University most specialized in management studies, Sokoine University of Agricultre (SUA), St. Augustine University, Tumaini University, Nelson Mandela University, Institute of Finance Management, etc.
The application is done via the Central Admission System (CAS) managed by The Tanzania Commission for Universties TCU. There is a students Loans board for citizen.
in most of these the tuition fees do not go beyond 5000USD per year.
I have seen students from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, Malawi and nearby countries come to study here but it is not frequent.
Many people try to go abroad and many with financial capabilities do go to India, China, US and Europe.
I particularly did my bachelor and Master right here and I can confidently say I am competent however personal efforts are hoghly required.
Many institutions have accommodation on campus but it is never enough for everybody. On privately run hostels you can have a room for about 5USD per day or small appartments from USD250 per month.
As a personal opinion if you are in an economically better country I would advice to study there unless you want something specific to Tanzania.

Hi Priscilla,

Greetings!

In my experience what i have found is, studying in Tanzania is very expensive. If you are coming for gap year experience just for an year it is ok ;but doing the whole course in Tanzania is not advisable. It is Damn Expensive for education as well as accommodation and all . Moreover it depends which course you are planning for?
