Hello,
I am looking for a therapist who is experienced in autistic children. Based in Nairobi. One who has a creative approach with the children or has tried different ways to help autistic children cope. Thanks.

Hi Katie,

Thanks for posting, but if promoting your services, you should re-post in the 'classifieds' section, not in the forum.

As an aside, you cannot legally practice in Kenya without a work permit and registration with the medical board (which requires that you do a 12 month internship in a public hospital).  Due to the number of fake medical practitioners, over the years, the government have cracked down on the requirements for health professionals to work here, legally.

I am an occupational therapist and don't practice in Kenya (apart from a bit of unpaid work here and there), for the reasons cited above.

If you go into practice to make some money, you are only going to see families who have the financial means.  This could and often does mean people with connections to government.  It would only take someone to be dissatisfied and blow the whistle.

If you are suspected of working without a permit, you run a high risk of being arrested, taken to court and deported.  It may seem harsh, but bear in mind that there are a significant number of health professionals (Physio and OT), trained locally but out of work.  The Kenyan government believes in jobs for locals first, then expats if there is a local skills shortage.

The unemployment rate is a political hot potato at the moment, with the elections coming up in August.
