Hi there
My mother is traveling alone to Muscat on oman air from india. I applied wheelchair assistance under non medical case I.e she is fit to travel but can't communicate in english. So only assisstance needed while travel. They told after arrival from the terminal gate itself they will assist but it seems she need to request after arrival... If anyone use this service, kindly tell whether we need to ask or they will come to assist directly.

Hi sharoonk,

I have used the wheelchair services of Oman Air quite often - including once just a few months back. It's really very simple and uncomplicated.

While booking the tickets, specify the requirement of a wheelchair. There are some options available, like whether the passenger can or cannot climb the stairs to board the aircraft. So once that is decided, the price will be fixed and the ticket has to be bought.

If the passenger cannot use the stairs, then the wheelchair passenger would have to be hoisted up using a modified lift at the rear of the carrier - after all other passengers have boarded the flight.

If the passenger is able to climb the stairs then the wheelchair is used only till the boarding gate.

While boarding, the airline's ground crew sitting behind the desk would know that the passenger requires the services of a wheelchair as well as an airport helper to push the passenger (at no cost). So the airline counter staff who is checking in the passenger would make all the needed arrangements.

Similarly, while coming out of the aircraft, there would be a wheelchair, with a person waiting to receive the passenger just as soon as the passenger steps off the plane.

Even if your mother cannot communicate, she can just point to the wheelchair and show her ticket and she would be easily brought out.

The process is relatively simple and everywhere the wheelchair assisted passenger would be given preference and the passenger would be escorted outside to the waiting receivers, as soon and as conveniently as possible.
