Mastering the English language in Australia

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hi everyone,

It is widely agreed that speaking English is essential for a successful integration in Australia. Do you agree? Share your experience!

Do you speak English? If so, where did you learn this language? Where can one attend a language course in Australia?

If not, how do you cope with daily activities? Is it easy to communicate in a different language with Australians?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I have lived in many countries and think it is important to learn the local language. Consequently, I speak French, Norwegian, Creole, some Bahasa as well as English.

I do not think that it is essential speaking English in Australia . I know a lots of people from my country that don' t speak English. They use the translation service and ask for help to their community.I think it is important for you to communicate with all people and to be more indipendent. Of course it helps you to be part of the culture.

My thoughts are that in order to engage/assimilate and therefore adapt better into the culture it is imperative that the local language/common language is learnt. Its not about losing anyone individuals identity/culture its about understanding and respecting that country/place and where its origin of communication lie.

What you want know? It is very simple that if you live in an English speaking country then you must have to know English language very well, otherwise, you cannot communicate properly for your needs.
