For basic needs and matters, English is enough as its spoken almost everywhere in KSA with few exceptions. (I have been living in KSA since 4 years and i know nothing Arabic yet)

However, Arabic adds that winning touch in a conversation with the locals/arabs

I highly disagree with you , may be you are surrounded with the people who are quite competent in it.

It is like saying english is no longer the medium of communication in America , it is some other language.

Arabic is the language of this country , local stores , supermarkets and local shops people still communicate in Arabic.

I go to a lot of branded stores where the staffers are not quite good in english , hotels are specifically regulated to do their greetings in Arabic.

Yes, I do speak and write Arabic simply because I'm Egyptian. However I use English with people at supermarkets because most of the employees there are Bengalis. Honestly I don't find language as an issue as mostly they grasp English more than Arabic.

I think it is important to learn the language that people are actually speaking. Definitly they are not speaking the language from the University. Therefore learning Egyptian dialect is what I recommend, as it can be understood from most.
The benefit of learning Arabic is that it can solve many small problems in day-to-day life, and people really appreciate the trials. It is funny that some e.g. Egyptians will not understand my Arabic, as they search in their English vocabulary and cannot find any Arabic words there. This will happen.
Personally I always had interest in this language, but not on a high theory level. One Egyptian told me, just to learn words, and to forget the grammar :-)
that's what I did, but not without double checking on other persons, what I already learned.
Funny enough I have 2 friends who only speak Arabic and no English, and how poor would my life here be if I couldn't talk to them daily a couple of minutes.

Well...  it is true the local supermarket guy, Cab guy, a plumber, an electrician etc do not understand Enlish,, but if you are from south asia and speak Hindi or urdu then you can comfortably communicate with most of people apart from people who understand Engnlish Alone.   i do not speak Arabic.. however i communicate with professionals in English and rest of people in Hindi or urdu and rarely face problem in KSA

When i was hired i am so afraid how can i deal with colleague boss and person who cant speak english but since i knew arabic i become adjust verh soon with them and it was really more benefit for me

I had trick when I was new here. I would say "ana jadid, mafi malom Arabic" whenever an Arabic speaking person tries to talk to me lol.

It is always exciting when you speak a language other then your mother tongue I learnt Arabic language by communicating with more and more people which was the only way for me to learn Arabic.

I've worked around Saudi Arabia for quite a long time and based on my personal experience as an Architect-Engineer, fluency in speaking Arabic is not a rule, but rather a principle. If you are dealing directly with the locals, it is a must.

I don't speak Arabic, but still you can manage with knowing little bit of malayalam and Hindi/Urdu, because most of the shops and taxi drivers are either from Kerala, Pakistan and Bangladesh so without Arabic also we can manage here the day to day essentials.. in a country like saudi Arabia, and if your interaction is directly with saudi citizen, than you need to speak Arabic fluently. If you dont speak Arabic... sometimes it means you r just dumb.
before comming here, keep in mind that Saudi people dont speak English, they do like it, but unfortunately cant speak it. u hardly find some1 who can speak.
I speak Arabic fluently, and this really make me feel comfortable with my work.
but its ok if you dont interact directly with Saudi people.

Yes Arabic still in need in Saudi Arabia, still locals prefer to speak in Arabic even so they speak English.
I am a Lebanese, therefore Arabic is my mother tongue and helped me in many situation, specially with government affairs or hospitals.

Unfortunately, even though I have been here many years I have failed to learn the language.  I work with many Saudi men who know English pretty well and it has seldom been a great problem.  I should have done better and it will be one of my greatest failures in my time here.  If you can learn the language, make the effort to do so as it will allow you to participate more in this society.

Every language has its own meaning but not all languages can carry all meanings, Arabic language can carry all meaning, now in general you can never reach local or natives and your massage can never be integrated perfectly and this apply on all languages

Hi, ImArabic is my mother language. In Saudi if you are speaking English will be well connected and integrated with majority of people. In my work most of communication even between Arab people are based on English language.

I'm Arabic Syrian and I learned English so I can speak both but here in KSA it's hard to find English speakers same as English speakers can't find Arabic speakers because they're surrounded by eachothers in compounds so it's hard for both and I recommend to learn the "Sign Language" it worked for me 'Cause last time I found an English speaker he didn't understand anything I said which is weird as f**k.

I love when i speak arabic but its a little difficult to speak arabic the best best part is that make and practice 6 months then you can be able to communicate with locals.

Arabic is my original language and I think there is no problems with people who speak english in daily activities  in Saudi Arabia because there are many people speak English . 

Yes, It really matters that you know Arabic language it helps to interact at workplace, with sales person etc
I dnt speak Arabic but i do know little, like some words which help to communicate when needed. I always want to learn Arabic language and from my friends i got to know that there are many home based centers.

Speaking Arabic language is essential for many, it can open you more doors, can bring you more job opportunities and you can understand more the market.

with English you can cope with your daily life, but you cant fully discover all possibilities here.

To those whom thinking that talking Arabic in "SAUDIA ARABIA" is not that important, try to speak only few Arabic words to any Saudi and you will see that he will smile to you because you are trying learning his language.
