We have the same problem in our holiday home (haha - but it is one) in Hungary.
Nobody wants to cook there, so they made the kitchen tiny.
But one gets used to it

i have noticed no1 wants to work extra.it all starts from the construction itself.small kitchens, less building material,saving labour cost per day,and later rent so high that it covers half the rent of a villa,and they keep building the same type of apartments so that ppl are forced to take them.

I am an architect here in Kuwait and I actually designed enough residential houses and complexes to know what's going on.
The municipality standard for kitchens in Kuwait is it should not be less than 9 sqm and the least wall length's is 2.5 mts.

As every project has a standard building percentage, owners are usually greedy that they prefer to add a small room than to make a bigger kitchen.

Trust me I've seen all types of people who want to build and most of them try to squeeze 3 times what their land can offer..

Ayman, thanks for your response! Nice to see someone who has insight and experience on what is actually happening. I've seen this happen in other countries too (squeezing in as much as possible into a small place). Of course, it doesn't really work. In many cases, it works against them as people feel cheated when they actually view properties that don't very well match descriptions in advertisements and brochures. The most common of these is advertising the number of rooms. I've seen some 2-bedroom apartments that are bigger and cheaper than 4-bedroom apartments. Space and design.

dont forget to mention shoddy finishing, paper thin walls etc.

kuwait was at its golden age after the war when the country was rebuilt and restructured, rents were reasonable (100KD for a 2bedroom apt, massive, made of real concrete etc, with a BALCONY). the majority of buildings did not exceed 3 or 4 storeys.

now however, enter the greed factor, the 3 storey building was turned into a 10or 12 storey building, half the size of the apartments and double the rents.

yeah i am witnessing the same thing in my area. i dont know wat will they do with the space they save squeezing the building paces.
