Dealing with native insects

This is a topic I have talked about before, and most seem to sort of brush it off like some blemish they are embarrassed about.
Let's face it they exist, and we have to live with them every where in the world. Share your tips about how you do that. Are there native remedies that work for you. I know rubbing a lime with salt on a bite seems to help with some insect bites.
Yes I did get bit by something I have not seen before, and there is a difference of opinion among the locals about what it was. It doesn't seem a popular topic for them either.

Door sweeps on all outside doors, windows with screens and that close well. Deet repellant for you

Insect bites that itch can be relieved with a shampoo that contains ammonia compounds as they are an antihistamine.

This bite was at a open cafe restaurant. One minute I was enjoying my salad, and the next I had a burning pain in my arm. and something thin, about 1/2 the size of a large ant, and black hanging on to my arm.

The waiter dashed off and came back with the lime an salt which worked. It was a black bee he said, but looked nothing like a Bee at all to me.When I swept it off of my arm I noticed it had a hard shell feel. Knocking him down probably didn't even give him a head ache.

Good advice . Things that should definitely be written down for another encounter.
