Hi there,
We might be moving to Malaysia as my husband has a job offer. Just wondering is there any possiblity of finding work in Malaysia? Any information would be much appreciated ☺

Aqsal - for foreign spouses with partner on work permit, the minimum salary is RM5k per month to qualify to work. To put that in perspective, it is about double the average wage. (There is no minimum for spouses of Malaysian citizens). It can be difficult to find work in some sectors because of protectionism and salary levels. IT is about the easiest sector. Not all companies can employ foreigners because they need to have a certain amount of paid-up capital and structure to do so.

Thanks for a quick reply @gravitas
That is quite sad. I would accepted less than 5k pay to just stay in the job market and not waste my time and talent by sitting at home. Do you have any idea if a specific work permit is required to do volunteer work in malaysia?
Cheers

It's possible to do volunteer work while on a Dependent Pass - there are always the schools for refugees that are looking for assistance. It's in the informal sector. UNDP has some arrangements you could join. https://www.unhcr.org.my/Volunteers-@-Volunteers.aspx You could also contact this organisation to see if they have any requirements - http://www.sols247.org/volunteer/

First off, it entirely depends on what she can do. Secondly, on a spouse visa, she depends on your approval to allow her to work... That being said, it's not because Malaysia is patriarchal like that... The same would apply if the wife was local.
So, if she wants to work FOR someone, she'll likely have to accept local salary (which is not much), she will not fall under the expat regulations that prescribe a minimum wage.
Before she can work, she will have to get a letter offer from the prospective employer to take to immigration, along with your permission, it's a lengthy process but the spouse visa explicitly states, 'employment prohibited'... It's stupid but true.

Do you need to get an endorsement in Malaysia if you want to work after you enter by using your LTSVP?
