The best services to use when moving to Mexico

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

What were the biggest hurdles you faced when moving to Mexico? Were there any services available that helped?

Which services helped you most upon your arrival in Mexico? Were there any that helped you adapt and integrate in your new home?

Are there any services that you wished were available when you moved to Mexico?

Did you find the price of the different services available reasonable? Were there any that were overpriced, to your mind?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I used a rental agent, who has since moved back to England. She was pretty helpful and was paid by the owner. That would be an ideal situation, but is not the norm. Are there those who would take advantage of the situation, oh yes, in every country.

So in my mind a rental agent would be at the top of my list. After she left the owner who is now a friend of mine introduced me to a bilingual gentleman who was a friend of hers.  She , and my now new friend  that she introduced me to, as well as the company my  landlady owns have been very helpful.

Beyond that, speaking Spanish is very, very helpful. If you can't communicate in at least a basic manner you face a lot of big roadblocks and can be isolated.

SMA seems to have their own concierge like agent, but most other places do not. You learn and you pay one way or the other, or you go back to the country you are more familiar with.

It's worth the effort. If you speak some Spanish, your neighbors will help quite a bit and some of them may be bilingual.

Always talk to someone who lives there already, but even better, talk in person with the Realtor or rental agent who is helping you find a home. As a Realtor here in San Miguel de Allende, i provide my clients (and to many who have not yet become clients) referrals for visa processing, paying utilities, getting your drivers license...I have referrals for anything a resident might need, and your Realtor will too!
