Refundable flight reservation/booking for Tourist visa

Hi everyone,
Does any Kenyan have  experience of applying for a tourist visa for ITALY (under 90 days)?

Are there travel agencies/airlines that will issue ticket reservations that are refundable in the case that the visa is denied?

I can't believe that the applicant has to risk 600+ euros for a flight ticket to risk losing it if the flight is denied.

I have seen that there are agencies that offer flight reservation documents for 25/50 dollar charge-but I don't know if these are trustable/or acceptable by the embassies ....

Any advice or experience would be greatly accepted

Well all embassies advice that you reserve a flight ticket not actually buying a ticket. All reservations are accepted at the embassy...and most of the reserving companies charge 5-10 dollars others don't charge at all! I dont know about which airlline you think but for example if you reserve with Kenya Airways and after visa issuing you can decide not to travel with them and buy ticket from Condor or any other flying companies....there are no restrictions of flights after you have your visa! I don't know also where you live but for example Hilton Hotel Nairobi has alot of flying companies there... you can reserve from there or just search on the Internet.

Safe journey

Thanks Beata - have you done that with Kenya airways? Was that from agency in Hilton?

Yes, it was Kenya Airways and KLM - they work together. We reserved the ticket in Barclays Plaza in Nairobi.
You can find the addresses here  https://www.kenya-airways.com/contacts/

Great! How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

Was it a deposit & then you were expected to book flight with them?

Did you then get the visa?

I'm a bit nervous of a visa denial if the reservation isn't serious looking enough -but I'm sure something from Kenya Airways/KLM would be great ...

My husband applied for visa to Netherlands. He chose dates when he wanted fly, he went to the agency and reserved his tickets. It means he paid only €10 for reservation... not real flights price. With reservation and the rest of documents he booked an appointment in the embassy. When they approved his visa, we changed the dates. He flew a week after. It means we lost that €10 that we paid for reservation but we found cheaper tickets and we bought them online.
