Hello all,

I was thinking to move in Colombia soon(this summer) but I read different articles and I don't know the way. My name is Cristian. I came from a small city named Arad, a city in the west part of Romania. I started to be a dj in 2000 but I don't know anything about Colombia, clubs, events, festivals. My genres are: deep house/tech house/techno/minimal/experimental music. As a maintenance specialist(electric/electronic/pneumatic/hydraulic/mechanic), I worked in different companies in Romania. Some years ago I worked for big companies who commercialize appliances. I was one of the technicians who repair their stuff in the guaranty therm.
I want to know if I have some chances to start a new life in Colombia - Santa Marta to be exact.

If you would not be coming as part of an existing organization with Colombia connections, your ability to communicate in Spanish would probably be crucial.

Why choose Colombia?

How's your Spanish?

Hello,

Well, I want to come in Colombia for the warm weather, for the friendly people and because in Europe it's not well. Too many taxes and people are too sad on the streets. I am from Romania, that is means my language is a Latin language. I understand some words in Spanish but nobody was born with any skills.  I am ready to learn.

Dear Chriss,

Well, you've got the positive attitude and the motivation necessary to be successful.

Don't wait till you get to South America to upgrade your Spanish skills if you are committing to work here.

Unless you have earth-shattering DJ skills that transcend language barriers, you can expect more success in getting steady tech/engineering work than pursuing DJ gigs.

I am from Romania and traveled to Colombia several times with work. Yes, Colombia is a happier country than Romania but economy there is worse than Romania and probably you wont find a job anytime soon, especially with limited Spanish.... You'll probably make less than in Romania... You are better off going to Ibiza or Costa Rica if you are looking for warm weather...

I like Monica's Ibiza recommendation.

In addition to this Spanish island's Mediterranean climate and relative proximity to mainland Europe .. English is more widely spoken on Ibiza than in South America.

Tourism, nightlife and the electronic music that originated on Ibiza may provide more opportunities in the DJ/tech field(s).
