Self-employed taxes

Hello everyone

After applying to several jobs with no success, I have decided to relocate to Austria (Vienna or Salzburg) or the Scandinavian countries and work as a self-employed. I've been running an online business for over eight years and I feel prepared to take this step. Is this information on taxes in Austria accurate?

•    up to €11 000    0% (no tax)
•    €11 000 – €18 000    25%
•    €18 000 – €31 000    35%
•    €31 000 – €60 000    42%

Also, what are the steps needed to obtain temporary residency? If I relocate there and register my business, can I apply for a temporary residency permit (I know it's necessary to take German courses and show proof of income)? Is the process complicated or can be done quite easily?

Can anyone recommend me an accountant or an agency that sets up businesses and handles the paperwork?

I would appreciate your help! Thank you in advance. I simply don't know where to start. I have done my research, but the information found online is often confusing. I want to make sure I do everything right. It's a major decision, after all.

Hi Andra, You don't say where you are moving from which will really determine a lot of what you need to do. I assume it's form outside the EU? I recently set-up a business here and it's pretty straight forward - if bureaucratic. Don't know where you're moving to, but the people to help you are the local Chamber of Commerce. They all have a 'Gruenderservice' which is the area that helps you set-up in business. You can check out a really good website and guide (inn English) at https://www.gruenderservice.at/site/gru … tion.html. That will give you a step by step guide to setting up a business.

Note that when you arrive you should make sure you have a police certificate from wherever you have lived for the previous 5 years. They will not progress anything until you provide this.

You could also check out www.salburg101.com which is a blog I started myself to try to provide useful information to newbies to Salzburg and Austria. You might find it useful, but I've only started so there's plenty more I need to add.

Let me know if you need any more specific help. All the best.

Hello

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the links have been automatically removed. I can not see them. I live in Romania - which is a member of the EU. I simply don't know how to proceed. I'm planning to hire an agency that sets up companies, but no one replies to emails. I don't know where to go and who to ask for advice.

Kind regards,

Andra

Just to inform you the links under review will show tomorrow. The reason for this only happens with new members. This is to make sure no spam links are displayed.

Thank you for your understanding.

HI Andraa,

If you live in the EU then it makes life a lot easier as you won't be obliged to attend language training etc. Of course it's good to do it, but you won't have to provide proof and pass tests etc.

I honestly don't think you need to hire an agency. While it is bureaucratic, it's straight forward and the  chambers of commerce are very helpful and efficient.

Hope  this helps.
