Hi Shropie,

For me, the most important thing to know before going to Brazil is Portuguese. At least learn the basic words like asking for direction, ordering food, buying basic necessities, taking the taxi or subway. Don't expect to meet someone in the street who could speak English. Although you might meet some locals, who could speak English, specially in known tourist hotspots but the rest of country will be like looking for a needle in the haystack.

Hi shropie,

I'm new here also.

I'll be fallowing this thread since I love Brazil, and would like to know more about it, even if Ecuador is in my sight right now.

Good luck!
