American wanting to move to Holland.

Post new topic

Krystia

Ok, so I feel like I am hitting my head against a rock. I am an American who wants to move to Holland. I have been told there are 3 ways, and 2 are pretty impossible for me at the current time. The 3rd I could not do for at least 2 yrs.

1. Get sponsored by an employer (Which is nearly impossible)
2. Skilled laborer (Again impossible for me)
3. A dutch partner (my boyfriend is 19)

How hard is it to get a work, and residency visa for study?
Or is there ANY other way to get a residential visa, and work permit?

I am wanting to rip my hair out.

Also I tried looking up rosetta stone to learn the Dutch language but this is completely expensive. Is there any sites, or programs that can help me learn Dutch for cheap, or free?

Any help that I could get would be entirely appreciated.

Thank you advance
Dawn

The other way is to get a student visa. Not difficult, just follow the process.

Also my experience is that they are not too concerned with Americans being here illegally, but I would recommend jumping through the hoops instead of taking chances.

No place is overflowing with jobs. But they can be found.

There are free online dutch courses, just do some web searches.

Hi Again

I also tried Rosetta stone, but to be honest the best thing is when you are living here always putting on English subtitles with movies, and TV has a lot of english shows so they are also in dutch subtitles which also help you associate words and form.

But the most benefit I got was doing a one on one class via Skype video with a teacher from Myngle.com  It was and is fabulous. Of course, depending on the teacher you have. It is about $150 for 10 half hour sessions. But you will see the options going onto the website.

That is the best one I found so far, that you can do from the comfort of your own home in a classroom instruction.
