I Moved to Begard with my husband from UK in March. We are looking for some social groups with both English and French members to join with a view to making new friends, improving our very poor French and integrating into the community. We are both retired but active. We both Love dancing, music, arts, literature, and exploring Brittany and the way of life here. My husband is also quite a keen golfer.

We have had family visiting every week apart from five days which I'd great but has meant we really have not had any time to meet new friends and get to know the area to date.

Any suggestions please?

Hey there Patricia :)

Welcome to Expat.com

Have a scroll down the page and you will see similar posts asking about making new friends.

When I moved over to Austria I spoke no German. I would visit cafes or the odd bar, I would listen out for English being spoken then kind of try and join in with the chit chat. I would also after some time after I got familiar with the place and staff, I would ask if there were any other English speaking people in the area.

With the great weather we are having now get out there and investigate, don't be shy.

Good Luck

Thanks for your advice, we did go to a Tea Shop specialising in English Tea at Pontriex. Although all of the staff were French they tried to telephone some English people who they said would love to meet us, but they were not at home. They said that we should go back to see them. I'll take your advice and start by going back to the tea shop this week.

I realise we have to actively make the effort to meet new friends as they are not going to seek us out.  I don't think that there's a lot of English speaking people I
Where we live.

Thank you for your input.

Kind Regards,

Patricia
