Vaccination

A question for expats who have moved to HCMC:

Did you get any vaccines before you came to HCMC? If so, which one(s)?

You should get tested for the Hep B and A antibody. If you do not have the antibody you should get it for your safety. If you were to contract them they could lead to liver cancer and death. There is a high incident rate of them here in VN, even though newborns are now inoculated at birth for the Hep B

I neglect to add that depending on which manufacture your health care provider uses it can take up to 6 months to get the full regiment. But check to see that the one your provider uses will be available here. I think all are, but check first. If you get to that point and need help PM me and I will check to see where you can get the same shot.

I was thinking of getting a few vaccines here, before I arrive in Vietnam.

That does not seem very defining. Some shots require a series of inoculations . So start the research of what it is you want to get and see how much time is required. Some of the Hep B manufactures take 6 months and they must all be from the same type. But like I said A & B are the most prevalent here for the average person. Of course, drug users, promiscuous folks etc. need to be concerned with Hep C everywhere. But there is no vaccine for Hep C as a prophylactic .
