Libyan Officials at Airport and Other places like Check point (legal and illegal) check points created by "pro" and all border posts on Libya are robbing the passengers. 1st they can't carry all luggage, Only 5KG is allowed (in case of most of countries embassies). It's very clear to those official whatever is expensive, important is in that 5KG bag and rest of luggage is scrap so for them they are looking for that bag and they take what ever they wish to. such as money, camera, mobile and laptop. so eventually people are coming back to their places empty handed. and excuse they give while robbing is, these items may have some information of Libya which they don't want to spread (really fuc**ng reason). and from whom they don't take all theses so they take money. from some of the people they have taken up to 1000 Dinar.

I would Love to have those valuable stories people should write their experiences, on how they managed to escape from those [Moderated] robbers in Dress.

This is crap, travelling through the airport as a foreigner is safe, they want to get you out, dont go overboard with the luggage, 01 carry on, 01 case, 20kg ish.
Take memory card out of phone, DO NOT get the camera out, stay in line and do as your flight rep tells you and your good to go.
We have escorted over 300 people through TIP in the last 3 days, none of the above is true.
People who spread this shit and cause panic need a kicking
(Sorry Julian, if you have to moderate, I understand)

i totally agree with officeboy infact when i was traveling i was alone with 3 small kids and the airport staff helped me with my luggage and thru that highly crowded area inside the airport, otherwise people all over the airport created so much chaos that they even don't bother if they are trying to crush a baby under their bags or ladies....and i guess this chaos that was spread around libya is all false and there is a solid reason behind it from some outsiders otherwise things are not as bad as  portrayed by media around the world. I guess outside world has some personal issues with Libyan leader other wise things were same as they were thru those 40 years..nothing changed except now there was some progress in the city , development around the city.... I hope people should understand its a country we are talking about and people who are living in it... and just to capture oil creating all that stuff in one country is not right.... there is definitely some foreign elements involved creating all that chaos in the country.

Well I did get thru TIP airport with:
2 mobile phones with camera(Venezuelan and Libyan SIM cards inside)
WIMAX Device (the white one, and yes, I was able to connect from the duty free).
Digital Camera.
Laptop.
But this was on the 23rd Feb (at that date I heard on TV that to cross Tunisian border, several checkpoints had to be passed, handingover those digital devices and phones... but who knows nowdays)

I got thru on 24th feb without my baggage being opened, with a laptop bag FULL of crap (and I really do mean full, laptop, jewellery, makeup, bank cards etc) and actually once we got into the terminal everyone was very respectful and helpful. Sorry to hear that people are having different experiences.  Oh yeah, wimax and mobile phone as well.

Oh yeah.  Especially after spending 24 hours actually waiting at TIP before getting thru, not to mention another 8 1/2 hours in Malta, 3 hour flight, and the fun at Gatwick..:/

Moan over.  I got home safely, and hopefully everyone else will too.  That's all that counts :)

I just suggested that, and you as admin should accept it or deny my suggestion, but not telling me to keep my opinion for me. Isn't it my right here to express my opinion?

Chill out guys. I'm pretty sure he meant the checkpoints on the way to the airport, not the airport itself.

It was a horrible experience at the airport on 1st March. We waited outside the airport at tripoli for about 16 hours. All were running everywhere with luggage to just enter inside.
Military were very rude & they just took most of the things from my luggage as well my 2 friend's luggage. Belts, medicine, food stuff, earphones, pens, etc. from each of us.
They took our camera mobile phones which were new but after several request they agreed to returned back the phones inspite sim & memory stick were already broken by them.
They looked like as if they are robbers & not there to help us but to frighten us & take whatever we have.
Really it was like a hell at the airport with the military guys.
