How to save money in Chile

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Did you plan your budget before your move to Chile? If so, how did you go about it?

How do you save money in your day to day life? Do you find there are any areas where you can't cut costs?

Do you have any tips about saving money in Chile? For example, getting the best deals on accommodation, grocery shopping and dining out, the best value transportation, etc..

Are there any apps or websites that have helped you to save money?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

Buy fruit, vegetables and other foods at the farmer's markets. Buy cloths at second-hand shops and try to blend in. Buy clothing items that are locally manufactured (even if they are a bit more costly than imported Chinese junk). Hit the flea markets for needed items. Live in a hostel or some other shared rent arrangement. Avoid trendy bars and nightclubs. Learn the monetary system well and the vocabulary of bargaining for a lower price. Keep your personal possessions at an absolute minimum. Buy a bicycle (and and good lock). DON'T have a girlfriend. Be cautious about whom you befriend. Build trust among those whom you come into contact on a daily basis. Seek advice on where to go for the best prices. Dress simply, keep a low profile, be humble but walk confidently with your head erect and shoulders thrown back, and smile wherever you go.
