Affordable bi-lingual secondary schools close to Brussels

Post new topic

New to Brussels

Hi,
I have a job in Brussels starting in September.  We are moving from Australia, so while my children (who are 12 and 14), have excellent English  speaking/writing skills, their French is very rudimentary to say the leasr.  Sadly our budget does not extend to an international bi-lingual school. Are there are low paying or even public schools that might be suitable that people can recommend? Suggestions are gratefully accepted.

I ve posted many times this map. It is all the private schools in Belgium with self declared bilingual french curriculum.  Start price is around 10 but most are much more. Lycee francais is lower but without french your children cannot be offered places at their ages.

There are no bilingual public schools at all. Don't believe those who claim a few secondaries outside Brussels in brabant wall on are bilingual as they are not. There are 3 of them in brabant wall on.  1 enfant  Jesus?  In nivelles.  2 athenee royal rixensart -Wavre. 3 le verseau in bierges.  The latter costs around 5 though public and does 4 /32 hours mother tongue English and 28/32 in french. It s 25 km to Brussels.

There is jean 23 woluwe in Brussels that does 13/32 hours in English from age 13 only and it s not bilingual but immersion so learner level English and mother tongue level french. You also have to apply for limited places.

Thanks for your informative reply. Much appreciated.  Are there many French tutors around do you know? If I organised additional support at home to assist with the transition would this be enough do you think?

There are heaps of tutors from 20-40 euro per hour. There are commune specific homework clubs even for teenagers.

Ace of Brussels - https://www.aceofbrussels.com
It's a private school, but more affordable than others.

I didn't suggest ace as it is not bilingual as per op s search criteria. It is however on the map.
