The forum is too quiet, people don't have questions?
I had a question about where the "Blue Flag" beaches are located - here is what I found. http://www.discoveringpuertorico.com/pu … lag-beach/
OK ReyP.......don't want you to have too much quiet time!
My wife, Katie, in Maunabo had a wonderful day yesterday. We are in the process of getting our property in Maunabo ready to build. This will require some clearing and a road to be built before we can do much else.
Our realtor's, the Stiedel's, have been wonderful people since I first met them back in January. They were very helpful then, and continue to be. We told them what we needed to do and they lined us up with someone who could build our road.
But that is a understatement! While I'm still here in Texas waiting for the sale of our ranch to close, my wife is trying to get some of these things done. The Stiedel's met her yesterday and took her to meet the road builder at his home. He didn't speak English so they acted as translators. After the initial business talk was out of the way, the builder showed them around his garden and gave Katie pineapple, cocao, and a few other things from his garden.
While we had the one "bad" incident a few weeks ago, it was obviously a fluke. Katie has found most people to be VERY nice and helpful! She is very happy with Maunabo as the choice for our retirement home!
Since last fall most of my time has been involved in selling my building in North Carolina with easement issues, etc. Finally on August 11 we have a scheduled closing. I will be in PR full time at the end of August after doing 6 month annual stays for the ;ast 14 years. Once there I will have plenty to share,,,Shipping a huge container and business equipment via La Rosa del Monte, Setting up my cabinet knob business operation and applying for act 20/22 or act 73 whichever I qualify for. Along with this my agro eco farm project will proceed from where it is now and apply for the benefits that are available. So as you can read I will make up for my share of the quiet time with plenty of hands on experiences. Past post are going to be a great asset in helping to walk through all these hurdles.

Oh yes, it is very common. When visiting make sure to compliment their house, farm or garden and you will end up with several items to take home plus a good cup of coffee. Or just ask about a particular plant and they will likely give you a seedling if they have it. People are proud of what little they have and are more than willing to share it with others.

Congratulations and we are all looking forward to the reports, there is nothing like first hand experiences.

Thanks for the link.
Unfortunately PR does not test the waters often enough and does not check all the beaches either. The more remote and less known the less likely it has been tested.
But as a general rule, most contamination comes down rivers, so if the beach is a ways away from a river the less likely it will be contaminated.
The beaches around Caja de Muerto off the coast of Ponce is blue flag water. One day I would like to Hire a local fisherman to take me to some of the smaller cays that are clustered around the area to have a first hand experience.
It might be of some help to check out ocean currents an see how the water moves from one area to another

Depends on the area and the traffic, turn your blinkers on. Some people drive on the side and sometimes they are not paying attention so you need stay vigilant.
Anyone have any info on internet services available on Vieques? Anyone on Vieques on here?
I thought we could just fill out a form...is this all true?
Driver’s License for New Residents
New residents must obtain a valid Puerto Rico driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency and may register to vote after 30 days. If you are a U.S. Citizen and you have a valid out-of-state license you must provide the following:
•Take an eye exam
•Pass the written exam. If you are over 25 and your current license has no outstanding violations, the written exam could be waived.
•Internal Revenue Seal of $11
The eye exam is $24 and the Internal Revenue Seal is $11, so you will pay $35 total.
The written test is not normally required.
As to the 30 days ...... They don't know when you arrived, besides it takes a while to get a bill with your residence.
Important: call before you go to see if you can get a Real ID driver license, I believe is 15 dollars more but that means you do not need a passport to take a flight. I think the break given to PR ends in October.
Get the Real ID one and check before you leave the DPTO, if you payed for it it must be the right one, sometimes they screw up.. Not all DPTO offices issue them, that is why it is important to call first or go to a different office.
Ok thanks Rey - there's only one office in Vieques I think but we could take care of this along with other requirements on the mainland. I wonder if the lines there are like they are here!

Old fart line works for me. IS it acceptable to fart while in line?

The group is up to 91 members including the 4 admins, several of them are not expat members, they are locals or friends of members. But we are keeping it for the most part social and I remind them to bring questions and ideas to the forum.
