Car imported while in military

Post new topic

Wegogogo

Hi!

So I imported a car while in the military and they took care of the import tax. Now I'm trying to sell the car and they are saying that the new owner needs to pay the import tax in order to register the car. Seems kind of redundant to me. Does anyone have experience with the same or similar thing?

Thanks!

We were stationed there from 2013-2106 (Coast Guard). Have you tried gettting a hold of someone on Fort B or the USCG base?  I'd imagine that someone has been in the same situation.

Sell to a military

Makes perfect sense that the non-military buyer would have to pay the import tax (basically meaning the military seller has to lower the offering price). The military ships vehicles and pays import tax so that the service member can use the vehicle while stationed OCONUS (outside the lower 48 states). Re-selling while OCONUS defeats that purpose.
