What to expect when moving to Panama

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Is there anything you wish you had known before moving to Panama? For example, transportation, internet speeds, types of housing, aspects of the culture or social life.

In your opinion, what's the most important thing to know about Panama?

When would you recommend someone should begin planning their move to Panama?

What were the most helpful ways you found to get organised? For example, did you use a checklist, were there any particularly useful websites or apps?

What advice would you give to future expats preparing to move to Panama?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Learn the language.
Be friendly and talk with everyone
Keep it simple. Bring as little stuff as possible
Go with the flow. It may be frustrating or confusing while you get your bearings but it all works out.

Take it SLOW. Everything is muy Tranquilo!

At least 2 years beforehand. There is a lot to learn.

Getting connected with expat bloggers that have already moved here. Making at least 2-3 visits during the wet and dry season. Buy Richard Detrich's book " The new Escape to Paradise. Panama for beginners and expat forum.

Do your research, get here and fact find for yourself. Do at least 2-3 week trips here twice. Don't be in a rush, have a positive open mind and learn some basic  Spanish!
Leave or sell your stuff. You can buy just about anything here. Rent for at least a year before you decide to buy property.
