Hi jacob101,

I guess you should start one discussion per question, it would be much easier to reply ;)

Hi Jacob101,

It's kind of difficult to answer your questions because it's subjective. You might have to do some research to narrow down which cities would be best for you an your wife. From what people have posted and if you've researched enough about Australia, it can be expensive to live in Australia. It all depends what your end take home pay will be and to compare it to where you currently live.

For your tax question, I think you have to provide a salary example to know what tax rate it would be.  Check out the following website of the Australian Taxation office http://www.ato.gov.au/ .
There should be a section to determine how much tax your wife would get depending on the salary she would get.

As for the pros and cons. Since you are looking into moving to Australia, you already know what "pros" are... increase in salary, change in quality of life..etc. from where you currently live?  Cons - it's not the same for everyone. The cons would likely be the experiences that any new immigrant goes through when moving to a new country that is different in culture than what they are used to.

Lastly, in regards to where to live. If you already don't have a preference of where to live, I would suggest live in the area where you or your wife will have a good prospect of getting a job. Each state like Victoria, New South Wales, etc. would have nice places that you can live and to choose from. Some immigrants get approved for visas and move to Australia without a job lined up. This can be difficult or easy depending on that person's experience/skills and opportunities to the area that they moved to.  But if you are lucky enough to be offered a job before you move to Australia, that is even better. However, accepting that job will already dictate where you will likely be moving to.. the area around where the job is located.

Big cities means more expensive as they are more popular.
If you were short financially, I would suggest you avoid the big cities at first, however the big cities are more interesting and more beautiful.
Well, that is your choice after all.
