Registering a birth in Mauritius

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Have you had to or are you going to register a birth in Mauritius? What was the experience like?

Who is required to register the birth, and where? Can it be either the mother or father?

What documents are usually required in Mauritius?

How long does the process to register a birth take? Are there any time limits in which the registration must be completed?

Did you register the birth with your home country and how did that process compare? Will your child be able to have dual nationality?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hello Priscilla
This is I fact very simple and easy. You need to get a birth certificate from the clinic where the baby was delivered. You need that certificate, your marriage certificate, both parents ID and an address proof to take to any nearest registration office (there's one in every district, I believe). You will get registration certificate on same day. You might have to wait for couple of hours. Both parents should take the child with them to the registration office.

No need to take the child with you at all...absolutely not...one parent only can go for registration...when your child is born in a private clinic or hospital...you are given a paper from the hospital/ private clinic mentioning that you have given birth...date /time/ sex/ parents' name etc.. take this doc along with both parents birth certificate, go to a civil Registry office in the area where the child was born..you have 40 days to do so... that's it...also the birth act is given to you same day...
