Well we decided to stick around whilst the mad rush to evacuate was on and intend weathering it out. However contigency options should never be closed.Any suggestions on perfect way to go with a body of peeople??

Vishal.Kapadia

i hope you are safe. i decided to go & came back on 1 march. is the situation really worsening? U can take a ferry & go to malta.
Take care.

Mintoo, I saw earlier in the week a telephone number for people to call if needing assistance to get out.   I will try to find it, as I believe it was a local number.

Thanx Vishal & mZsmartypants.
Actually there just ain't any problems of safety out here but a contigency option that we need to keep at back of mind
....just in case! Malta ferry most definitly seems a better option then the road route via tunisia where chances of getting fleeced are a reality that one needs to accept on face value. However to organise a ferry for a small body of people with a reputed shipping company ; ensured deliverence is what we intend doing. Request pass on the number's / details of shipping co,etc.

A question:
So actually there is a regular ferry operating between Malta and Tripoli?
why?
how?
sounds so hopeful and different than every other bits of news we get about the city.
all left in Tripoli, you are in our thoughts, constantly

Mintoo, I tracked that number down for you.   It is a UNHCR hotline for refugees and assistance.    The number is:
218-214-777-503.   Hope this helps if you decide you need it.  Might be beneficial to call and see what they can do should you decide in the future you want to leave.   In the meantime, stay safe.

Mintoo - if you're still in Tripoli, then I'm sure that you have the best wishes of everyone on the forum, and whatever decision you take regarding either staying or going, remain safe and well.

Just out of curiosity - how have you been able to post to this site, as the internet in/out of Libya is still blocked from the backbone?. Do you have a VSat?.

mintoo

Thank God for small mercies fifer!
Yup ferry service is on as today only we saw one taking on pers to Syria, fatmakumru!
As on date there are expats holding fort with families and waiting for this tidal wave to subside;believe u me whence i say that us sub-continental asians have seen far worse though alacrity of our embassiy's response this time on has most  definitly been laudable.
Fear frankly speaking is a perception and how much one is able to suppress it in face of odds is perhaps the key!
We volunteered to stay put and hope to hang by..slender is the thread. No? Any way most of the Libyans have been very supportive of all foreigner's and we are very appreciative & gratefull for the same.:|

Sorry, I don't mean to bother you: So are you saying that this ferry was leaving for Syria.
How about the aforementioned Malta ferry?
I can only imagine how difficult daily life must be, Mintoo?..
Food prices? transportation? As far as I knew there were no shelters in Tripoli. SO where do people hide when airstrikes happen?
At one point I heard that Rixos Hotel was gone, today I read that foreign journalists were staying there. Do we have to understand that parts of the city are calm..er?
We cannot stop thinking of the daily hardships of our Libyan friends and of course those who stayed behind like yourself.
Do you still have jobs to go everyday? Are the banks, shops open regularly? How about schools, children? They must be so scared.
I don't mean to ask all these questions, I am just wondering aloud my concerns about a city I care about.

Dear All,most of these fear's are rather unfounded as life goes on the way it was accept the International school's being shut as of now;that effects my son's education a wee bit! All the shops and bank's/hospitals etc are open albeit a early evening shut down. We keep our counsel and continue with routine office activity as usual.
I wish to douff my hat to all local Libyan's who have been more than supportive to all foreigner's inspite of their tough times.
Real good folks! This `am writing with an open ended heart & a first hand experience to date..no pretences! God willing genuine old time normalacy & bonhomie shall return ; `am sanguine!!:|
