Long term visa...

Hi!
My husband and I are going to live in Romania for about 3 years we have almost all of the documents required for a long term visa. We need a health certificate from a Romanian doctor. We are also trying to get our car thru customs and the person in the office said we needed to go to the Police Station and register for a visa. Do we need to do this or will this jeopardize or chance a long term visa.

Police stations do not issue visas, the Romanian Ministry of External Affairs does that. IGI (Inspectorate General pentru Imigrari) however issues residence permits or registration certificates. In your case, being American, that would be a residence permit.
