Hey guys, I would want to learn Spanish from a female native spanish speaker... Its a choice I made instinctively and I would love it if there is someone who can help me out since nothing is better than learning it from a native speaker.. I am still a student by the way...Any help would be appreciated!!

I would suggest that you also start contact classes if possible. This way the Grammar can be learnt and little vocabulary can be learnt. This means that you will find that the time offered by the native spaeker of Spanish can be well utilised. This is important because the expat is really short of time & their initial enthusiasm m is not a guarantee for sustained interest.

You may let me know if you need assistance for identifying the suitable contact classes and also for the books.

If you know an expat who is enthusiastic then please keep me in the loop if possible,as I have been studying Spanish for a while and not succeding as I have not been able to locate a native speaker.
Wishing you all the best

hey arthanand,
hey could you suggest me a few good books?? I am in final year of engg. and so wont be able to go to classes till june. I am trying to build up on vocab.. So I thought a bit of speaking/learning Spanish in a group would help me now

@ Ritzy- If you want to seriously learn Spanish, you should think about joining classes. A native speaker can only help you in practicing the language and cannot be a substitute for classes. Also, learning from books might teach you some basic phrases but will leave you even more confused. The reason is, books/websites/classes have their own ways of teaching a language. Now even if you start learning Spanish from a book, at some point you will want to join classes for learning it in a disciplined manner. It'll then be difficult for you to abandon a certain structure and try to learn the language through a completely new structure.
So my suggestion is, wait if you can till June and then join classes. This way, you'll also have your teachers and fellow students to practice Spanish with, who will be very patient with your limited knowledge of the language. I say this from experience. I simply LOVE the Spanish language and started taking classes after trying different things.(though had to take a break cuz I was traveling).
Hope this helped! Feel free to shoot any questions you might have.

Please try Curso de Espanol para Extranjeros VEN 1 which will not be available with bookshops(I can arrange a copy) or simply pick up Teach yourself Spanish.

You will not be able to master the language without attending contact classes. If you can afford it,please hire a private tutor or you can join a contact class at say Ruia college in Central Mumbai. If that is inconvenient ,do let me know which part of the city you would like your contact classes to be.
Best wishes,

Ritzy you had written:I am in final year of engg. and so wont be able to go to classes till june.

We are now planning to start a meetup group of expats and locals who are desirous of learning Indian(say Hindi)& European languages(say Spanish, which is also American) respectively.

Hope you have done well in your exams and would like to know if you would be joining any classes now?Would you like to join the 1st such meeting which is likely to be held on a Saturday or Sunday in an inexpensive(relatively) restaurant in say Bandra/Santa Cruz.Any one desirious of meeting may also reply publicly.

Best wishes,
Art

hi asian1142,
i think the discussion started by arthand has really spiralled into a renewed interest in spanish language. i tried hard to learn the language and couldn't suceed due to lack of native touch.also i find the conjugation of words very hard.please tell me how to reach you. i am sending you my e-mail id which is bombay_rahul@yahoo.co.in.

Regards.

Hello folks,
I think we are all seeking each other to learn spanish. But its quite ironic that no one contacts each other or bothers to respond to fellow bloggers. i have written umpteen number of times that we have a place in Central mumbai where we can gather and learn spanish in a group. The expats might get a chance to learn & understand hindi in exchange.

Regards,
Rahul.
