school registration process

Hello everybody,

my daughter was born in 13/11/2015 and I would like to get her in a French public school starting next September when she will be 2 years and 10 months old. I don't know much about public education in Belgium but I guess what I need is a maternele. I read a lot of information online but what I still don't understand is the process to get her registered. Do I have to visit each school separately and ask for a place there or I have to go to my commune (Ixelles) and ask them which schools have available places? And when is the best time to do it? Can I start the process now in order to ensure a place for the next academic year?
And also what are the differences between officiel, officiel subventionné, libre non confessionnel and libre  confessionnel?

Any help would be much appreciated!

The commune controls only 40% of schools.

Go to each school near you and ask how to enrol. Most schools do individual enrolments. A small minority do centralized enrolments.

You shpul be aware many schools have already filled places for September 2018.
