Have 2-month extension, can I leave and re-enter?

Post new topic

My employer (who still hasn't processed my work permit) got me a two-month extension on my social visit pass.  I wish to go home to Thailand for the end of year holidays.

My extension is good until January 17th.  Am I going to have any problem returning to Malaysia on January 2nd.

Your wise counsel is appreciated.

No - its fine to leave but you will enter again on a tourist type visa

Couple of issues. If you are already receiving a salary, and are tax non-resident but trying to link tax year 2017 to 2018 so that once qualified both years can be reassessed on a tax-resident basis. In that scenario the holiday absence must not be more than 14 days.

But are you aware you should be outside Malaysia while the employment pass Stage I is being processed?

I will tell you what is the worst case scenario - you enter on 2 January and they stamp you back only until 17 January....... I've personally experienced invalid and cancelled visas still being taken as valid...... just saying....... So if you enter as a tourist, then you will get 90 days.......

Thanks, Gravitas,

The tax issue isn't an issue as I haven't received a work permit, yet.

My greatest concern was not being allowed back in, but if even until the 17th, that would be acceptable.
