Visitor Visa Question

Post new topic

MissGolfsALot

Hi all,

I have a friend from Germany who entered Malaysia and has remained here using the 3 months visa free option. She will be leaving for Thailand shortly before her 3 months in Malaysia is up but will be flying back to Malaysia from Thailand, meaning she should get a "new" 3 months in Malaysia.

Her question is this: let's say her first 3 months grace in Malaysia ends on 31st January but she goes to Thailand say on 23rd January and returns back to Malaysia on 30th January. Does her "new" second 3 months starts from 30th January (for a further 3 months) or because her first 3 months allowance only ends on 31st January so actually, she only has 1 day to remain in Malaysia?

Would appreciate it if someone can please assist.

Thank you.

Gravitas

The period starts from the entry date. So new 90 days starts on second arrival date (30th Jan)

After about 2 tourist visa-free arrivals, there is now a strong possibility that a Do Not Land directive may be issued by immigration, returning the traveller to the last embarkation country.

For visa runs, the person should be out of the country for 3 days if they leave before the 80th day and out of the country for 7 days if they leave from 80-90th day.

Thank you Gravitas :)

For the 2 visa-free entries...does this apply to overland only? Would that be fine by air?

Gravitas

For Malaysia it is either land border or airport are counted in the same way. It is total number of entries.

Thailand also has a new rule of only 2 land crossings into Thailand per calendar year on a visa free basis.

Wow, didn't know that. Thanks for the info Gravitas.

Regarding Malaysia, my friend's first entry to Malaysia was in November last year....does this mean she would be okay for 2 visa free entries for 2018? Apologies for the many questions, we really couldn't find much info online.

Gravitas

No - for Malaysia it is total - so after the second entry there is a possibility of being given a short entry period (i.e. less than 90 days) or being given DNL which seems to be a 30 day bar on re-entering Malaysia.

Thank you Gravitas.
