Hi, I'm coming to Jakarta with my family for a holiday but have not booked accomodation yet. We're looking for a cheap hotel or guesthouse. Does anybody know which areas we are most likely to find such accomodation?
Thanks

Unless one gets a truly high-paying job, I think Jakarta should be avoided at all cost.
The smaller cities in Java are still very nice to live, and by nice I mean much healthier, too!

Hello,
I have stayed here several times in South Jakarta.
Hotel Kristal
reservations@hotelkristal.com
Very clean include breakfast and close to expat community in South of Jakarta, in Kemang Area.
It’s to be noted that traffic jam is a total nightmare in Jakarta, so give yourself at least 1.5 to go anywhere. If you think London traffic is bad, Jakarta is 10X worst, at least.......
Good luck!
Hi - I don’t mean to offend anyone here, especially the super nice Indonesian ladies.
I am new to this site and have notice there are more local members than true expats in this site.
I hope this is not a dating site or social group activity, because for that we have Facebook, Instagram and the Tourist Bureau.
Who are considered expats in Indonesia? The foreign nationals who work and/or keep properties in this country, the locals who work with expats or Multinational Corporation, or also the locals who just like to know the expats?
Can the site moderator give some clarification?
I am reluctant to post questions publicly as it might open to unwanted solicitation.
Thanks in advance.
Expat.com is a site for people who have moved from their home country to another or for those that want too. Everyone is welcome to post and share ideas, thoughts and pose questions.
Giving out personal information, soliciting, being abusive either directly or in directly will see a poster banned.
The banning process can be started by any forum moderator from any forum because we all support each other.
So Glenn, if you want go participate then please do. If you find youself part of unwelcome contact or advice you can hit the report button.
Thanks.

All are welcome as long as they stay within the rules, or at least don't break them too much.
You'll notice I'm Indonesian, that being because I'm an immigrant rather than an expat, a sort of ex-expat.

There is a dating section in classifieds where horny men can be ignored by all but gold diggers, but such things are not allowed on the open forums.
Glenn Neijevelt wrote:Who are considered expats in Indonesia? .
Any expat that lives in Indonesia, but that stretches to immigrants such as myself.

Any such posts should be reported so they can be reviewed. You'll see ads, spam, and other unwanted stuff removed pretty quickly by Luke, myself, or one of the senior team members.

Hi
I'm 52 and so is my wife. We live in the United States and want to move to Bali next year. My biggest concern at the moment is finding health insurance and how to go about doing so. Also my parents who are 83 and 76 would move with us.
Hi Expat.com and all,
Quick intro: I've been an expat in 4 countries for 11 years, 6 of which in Jakarta, Indonesia. Yet I only signed up today, as I'm trying to find a Bahasa Indonesia tutor to help me make my intermediate level Indonesian fluent (I even managed to get blocked by the anti-spam algorithm after answering more than 3 Bahasa lessons Classifieds)
Question: What's the fastest way to learn formal Bahasa?
I'm willing to invest time in learning intensively.
Thanks
BR
Doel
you have to brave to talk in bahasa with someone, to learn it

Bad idea.
Jalan Jaksa is a dump populated by low class prostitutes and ladyboys selling diseases at tourist prices. Most of the street is closed down bars and not much else.
One place on there looked reasonable, but that's all.

Hi and welcome to expat.com.
I'm Fred, also Indonesian (used to be British), but I'm very unfriendly so I never meet people from the forum, especially if they're lovely ladies as my wife would potong potong sosis.
Hello, John here from Germany. I have travelled around the world and felt in love with Bali, Lombok and Bima. Yes, Bima. Bima is east of Lombok, not so tourist crowded but has pretty gentle beaches.
so I decide to buy and lease land from Lombok for building stores from container in Obel-Obel. And bought land in Bima to built private villas with beach access,
if someone interest to invest into that projects and even wants to get more information, he or she can drop an message to me.
thanks,
John
