Hey guys,

Is it cost effective buying a laptop in Saigon or should I just buy duty free in Australia?

Cheers,

If you want a used, refurbished one can get relatively cheaply, but I believe new there are no bargains compared to the "Western" world.

I agree as well. Even refurbished one are not cheaper than in westerns countries.
It's probably linked to the market size / maturity.

But at the end, for brand new laptops, differences are not very big anyway.

Might help you to see what is available at a big store in Saigon. You wouldn't want to bring an exotic brand that can't be serviced. Open the Phong Vũ site in Chrome for english translation. Prices include tax.

Keep in mind language will be something too.  For example, you may want a laptop that natively runs in English, with an English-style keyboard.

Of course you can change the language, but it depends on how familiar you are with the OS settings, as well as when it's in another language that you may or may not know well, will you know what you're looking for to make the changes?

Every laptop I have bought here has an English style keyboard, not sure what you are getting at.
