Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding leisure activities that are free or low-cost in Qatar. This information will give future expats (or even current expats) an idea regarding some of leisure activities that they might not be aware of.

Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in Qatar, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? How do you find out where events are organised?

What are the most common free leisure activities in Qatar?
Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?

Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.?

How do you maximise your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

Cycling on the formula one race track. If you bring your own bike and helmet, access to the race track is free and open on Wednesday evening from 17-21 hrs (Tuesday as well, then ladies only). It is a great cycling track, safe, exciting - considering that race cars and motor bikes are the 'normal' occupants.

Quite popular but because the track is so wide and long (5 km is one round) it does not feel busy.

You can also rent bikes and helmets for QAR 35 for the evening. Jogging on the grass next to the track, walking, roller blading, scooter for kids, all possible

Qatar national library is free: very large, amazing architecture, huge collection of Arabic and English books, sometimes there are lectures, once a month or so a concert from the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, even that is free and the Orchestra is of very high quality. Tickets for them at Katara cost normally QAR 75-200, in the library it is free. The acoustics of the library (from a very famous Dutch architect) are very good.

I found that Qatar has a lot but communication and online marketing is not brilliant. the Library was a lucky find, the music there even more so.
