Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding leisure activities that are free or low-cost in Slovenia. This information will give future expats (or even current expats) an idea regarding some of leisure activities that they might not be aware of.

Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in Slovenia, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? How do you find out where events are organised?

What are the most common free leisure activities in Slovenia?
Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?

Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.?

How do you maximise your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

Hi Pricilla,

This is a good topic - thank you for asking it to make it public. I am only in Ljubljana this February and here are my suggestions:

8. February is Prešeren-Day, a public holiday to celebrate the famous Slovenian poet and culture. On this day all museums and galleries are free for charge. They even offer free tours and activities for the children. Try to book them in advance, because there's a huge demand. Find more free activities here https://www.visitljubljana.com/en/visit … ljubljana/

Ziferblat in Ljubljana offers different activities. You pay a little amount for the time you spent there. http://ljubljana.ziferblat.net/calendar/

Explore the city with Ljubljana Free Tour https://www.ljubljanafreetour.com/ - please don't forget to tip them - or get a new impression on the city from the view of a homeless person with http://www.sloveniaguides.si/en/tours-l … -ljubljana (app. 8 Euro/person)

Have a look at the fleamarket on the riverbank Breg of Ljubljanka river on Sunday mornings from 8:00 to 14:00. Find more ideas: https://www.use-it.travel/cities/detail/ljubljana/

Go to Bled (and other places) by public transport. Walk around the lake and climb up to the castle. This is free, fun and beautiful. Or try https://prevoz.org/ for a cheap ride.

Check the meetups Ljubljana/Slovenia (meetup.com), where you can join groups and activities free of charge, e. g a bikeride around a lake in spring. Membership is needed (about 5 Euro/monthly) to start you own group

Please feel free to add and edit my suggestions.

Enjoy Ljubljana and Slovenia.

Regards,
Diana
