who will pick up the garbage in the morning?
who will clean up the house?
who will drive the kids to school each day?
who will take the ladies shopping?
who will run the corporate businesses, banks, and even government departments?
who will build your homes?
who will ensure you get electricity, water and telephone connectivity?

if the expats were never needed here they would never have been allowed to enter this place...

you cant have the cake and eat it, at the same time

Riyadh for me is like a swansong to developing countries (and yes I view Saudi still as very much a developing country). I have lived in Kenya and Ethiopia but Riyadh basically in no kind words broke me. If I didn't have 3 monthly visa runs and business meetings out of the country I'd have gone insane.

It started well with a bunch of expats taking me under their wing but after they drifted away a few months in, all I could find in terms of doing things in Riyadh was shopping in malls, eating by myself, and watching DVDs. After 18 months and torrenting pretty much every box set, I'm a bit done with Saudi. Not really the amazing culture I was expecting. I'm not too down. Have travelled a lot (by myself) in the region until a few months ago, and have some amazing landscapes etched on my mind, but was kind of hoping for a bit more.

If I could have my time here again I think I'd aim for Jeddah, the few times I was there on business the people actually smiled at you, and things just seemed that more liberal and open-minded.

Oh I love it MM ...whatever u just wrote,it seems nothing less than perfect response of such an offensive response which was not even for Saudis .....I dont understand how one can be so rude :o

Hornerjona, I guess i exactly know what u mean but i still believe we need to meet "Right people" There are many from totally a different back ground(Lets consider it Modern) and they have made amazing connections and there life is too happening.

I just hope u get to meet them soon :)
