Recommendations for areas for expats to live

Hi there,

We are planning to move to Lisbon (Cascais/Estoril/Alcabidiche) this summer and are currently doing our due diligence in terms of finding the right area, the right (rental) house, the right school and last not least connect with Expats that went through the same exercise at some point.

Following our first recon trip, we thought that Cascais and the surrounding area would be the better place to live rather than in the city, also international schools seem to be more concentrated there.

Here now my question: any particular recommendations, is it worthwhile to move into a gated community (condominium as it seems to be called), any area that we should concentrate on? Ideally an area where our 13year old son could be mobile without us having to drive him everywhere.

Appreciate your help

Take into consideration that traffic is horrible from Cascais to Lisbon. If you don't need to go every day to work to Lisbon, I agree that Cascais/Estoril is a great area.

I would suggest also to check Belem area, that is closer to the city center.
