Hi Frnds,

I'm a student from India. I got selected for Ms programme in University of Oulu and Turku. Kindly suggest me to select between the two universities. And also tell me which city is better. I dont know Finnish at all is it possible to get a part time job.

Regards,

Yuva

I would suggest Turku. It is much closer to Helsinki and it has great connections to Sweden (through cruises). Turku is also a lot older than Oulu (it is in fact the oldest city in Finland) so it has a lot of culture. Turku is concidered a student city because of the many students living there.

Finding work with no finnish knowledge at all might be hard. As Turku IS a student town however, there could be job oppotunities I don't know about. Learning basinc finnish should be your top priority.

All in all...I'd recommend Turku for your studies. I hope you have a great time and congratulations on being accepted to 2 schools. :)

Turku does have a better geographic location, so the weather is better than Oulu. What major are you in?

@ Monstarcookie: Thank you very much for the post. Yes right now learning basic Finnish is my priority.

@Jimmyguang: In university of Turku its Information Technology Management and in University of Oulu its Software, Systems
and Services Development in the Global Environment.

After a lot of research, I guess University of Oulu is a much better option. It is ranked second in Finland, next to University of Helsinki. The living costs are pretty manageable. The only drawback I can see is that you may have a hardtime finding a job, but that is not even a problem if you are familiar to basic Finnish language.
